Jeff Kampf a.k.a. "Weatherhed"
From an early age, Jeff Kampf, affectionately nicknamed Weatherhed by his college friends for his distinctive frizzy hair, has been captivated by the world of music. At 24, he embarked on his musical career at Record Plant Studios in New York City, where the vibrant energy of the 1970s music scene fueled his passion.
His journey took a significant turn when he became a driver and road manager for the legendary singer-songwriter and guitarist Dave Van Ronk. Under Dave's mentorship, Jeff honed his skills in guitar playing, composition, and the intricacies of the music business. This foundational experience inspired him to further his education at the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied voice, theory, and composition.
In 1980, Jeff launched his own entertainment business, blending his love for music with a commitment to education as a college professor teaching ancient history and human rights. Yet, despite his varied roles, composing, performing, and sharing music remain his greatest passions.
Jeff’s musical influences are as diverse as they are profound. He draws inspiration from ancient ideas and rich musical traditions, particularly Indian, Persian, and Middle Eastern sounds. His love for the ethereal tones resonates throughout his compositions, while the improvisational spirit of Miles Davis and other laid-back blues artists shapes his funky and jazzy creations.
With a solid classical foundation from music school, and insight from a Masterclass with the legendary Hans Zimmer, Jeff's work often channels the essence of Abstract Expressionism, inviting listeners to experience music in a profoundly emotional and imaginative way.
